#wtbasel/ Last year's interesting debut from the all-but-forgotten boutique brand comes out in an automatic version this year at Baselworld.
WORLDTEMPUS - 6 March 2011

One year ago at Baselworld, Urban Jürgensen officially launched its P8 chronometer. Created with the combined expertise of Jean-François Mojon, Kari Voutilainen and brand owner Peter Baumberger, it has made quite a splash in the world of collecting over the course of the last twelve months.

Mojon and his team at Chronode designed the new movement according to work previously completed by the late Derek Pratt with the idea of improving rate, performance, and stability. Voutilainen was in charge of finishing and prototyping. The result of this incredible teamwork was Caliber UJS08, a large and aesthetic movement that contains a world premier: the first pivoted detent escapement made for a wristwatch.

Automatic
This year at Baselworld, the boutique brand sharing a booth with independents Stepan Sarpaneva, the Grönefeld brothers, and Romain Gauthier in Hall 5.1 introduces an automatic version. Reference11 C, as it is now known, is available in a first edition of 80 pieces in platinum and rose gold.
The automatic version of this 42 mm gold wristwatch contains a number of elements of Mojon's organized way of thinking. The automatic assembly is secured to the movement by just three screws, allowing easier maintenance and functionality. The gold rotor weighing in at 3.86 grams is thus allowed to make its rounds in a simpler manner, which makes it less susceptible to shock. Shock is also lessened due to five jewel bearings in the automatic bridge.
The movement continues to contain two spring barrels providing 88 hours of energy. Additional energy no longer needs to be added by winding the crown, but by simply wearing the watch. And, just in case you were wondering, this caliber was designed in such a practical way that we can expect to see myriad complications added to it in the coming years, all of which necessitate no modification of the base caliber other than simply adding the desired complication.
