Hublot has dropped a bombshell: an automatic skeleton tourbillon crafted from a block of SAXEM. This sapphire-like material offers enhanced luminous and chromatic possibilities, including this unique green hue.

Who but Hublot could surprise us once again at LVMH Watch Week 2025 with more novel materials? Since unveiling its fusion concept of bold high-tech combinations featuring innovative materials like carbon, titanium, ceramic and sapphire, Hublot has continued to push boundaries. Notable examples include Magic Gold, an 18-karat gold alloy containing ceramic for unparalleled scratch resistance, vibrant ceramics in bright yellow and red, and blocks of coloured sapphire.

Hublot, never content to rest on its laurels and always seeking out innovation while adhering to its “Be First, Unique and Different” philosophy, is now introducing SAXEM (Sapphire Aluminium oXide and rare Earth Mineral). Originally developed for satellite technology and adapted for watchmaking in Hublot’s Metallurgy & Materials lab, this groundbreaking material rivals sapphire in hardness and transparency while offering greater luminous and chromatic range. It’s a breakthrough for the company which, despite its mastery of sapphire’s subtleties, had reached a limit in terms of colour options.

Thanks to SAXEM, Hublot now presents a transparent Big Bang in an intense crystalline emerald green. This striking colour is made possible by SAXEM’s unique molecular structure. To get technical for a moment, “While both sapphire and SAXEM are composed of aluminium oxide, SAXEM incorporates rare earth elements. Its structure is also different: sapphire is trigonal (three-sided) while SAXEM is cubic (four-sided).” This subtle yet crucial distinction allows SAXEM to display intense colours, with a brilliance close to that of precious stones, as evidenced in this Big Bang powered by a skeleton self-winding calibre with a tourbillon escapement.

The MHUB6035 movement is a mechanical and aesthetic marvel, entirely developed and manufactured by Hublot. Its contemporary architecture features a 22-karat gold micro-rotor positioned on the openworked dial side, its black finishes starkly contrasting with the emerald green SAXEM case. Ceramic ball bearings ensure smooth and efficient winding, providing a minimum 72-hour power reserve – that’s three full days of continuous operation.

The Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Green SAXEM, measuring 44 mm in diameter and fitted with a rubber strap, is set to captivate collectors and enthusiasts of avant-garde watchmaking. With a global limited edition of just 18 pieces, it’s sure to be highly sought after.
