When it comes to sailing, style is everything

Sailing around the Greek coastline in a brand-new Solaris 60 Mini-Maxi yacht, our “WorldTempus on Tour” team had a fine choice of timepieces to pick from. Here is a small selection of some of the wristwatches they chose to wear on this elegant sailboat with its large open cockpit, full flush lines, and voluminous bow sections.

Bulgari Aluminium New Chronograph

First launched in 1998, the Bulgari Aluminium caused a sensation with its aluminium and rubber design that was extremely unusual for the time. In 2020, the brand re-released the collection with higher quality materials (6028-aluminium alloy and FKM rubber), a brand new chronograph movement (Automatic Calibre B381), and a slightly larger case (41mm instead of 40mm). This new model comes in a choice of an all-black dial, or a white dial with black sub-counters. The black dial version photographed here comes with a titanium caseback, which has been treated with DLC for additional durability and scratch resistance, and a black rubber bezel featuring the double Bulgari logo for an even sportier look. Other details include a 100m water resistance, white indexes, black hands with SuperLumiNova, and a silvered chronograph hand with a red tip. What better way to take on the waves?

Behrens Starship II Red Edition

Inspired by spaceships, the Behrens Starship II Red Edition will get you noticed with its concave mechanical construction and luminous dial. This futuristic model is typical of Behrens distinctive aesthetic that makes it stand apart from the competition. This futuristic timepiece is available in a host of different colours – light green, baby blue, white, orange, and red – all of which glow in the dark. It is powered by a Miyota 9 series automatic movement, on top of which Behrens has constructed a unique mechanical module that allows the watch to present the time in an unconventional three-dimensional form. Housed in a 42mm stainless steel case with a black coating, the Starship II is paired with a coloured high-quality “Viton” strap that matches the colour of the dial.

Cyrus Klepcys GMT Palm Green

This latest addition to the Cyrus line is the perfect holiday timepiece with its openworked palm green dial design and 24-hour GMT function. The model was first unveiled in 2020 and was the brainchild of master watchmaker Jean-François Mojon. It marked a number of firsts for the brand, including its first in-house automatic movement (Calibre CYR708 with a 55-hour power reserve), the arrival of a 42mm case in titanium, an integrated bracelet, and an improved water-resistance of 100m (up from 30m). As Greece is an hour ahead of Switzerland, the 24-hour GMT function came in very handy and was a breeze to operate with the intuitive two crowns. The Klepcys GMT is also available in Ocean Blue with the choice of a grey Cordura strap, which would be equally elegant on the high seas.

Schwarz Etienne Geometry

This may not be the first timepiece that you think of strapping on when going sailing, but this Schwarz Etienne’s geometrical good looks and navy blue details couldn’t look more at home on the Solaris 60! Imagined by famous watch designer Eric Giroud, the watch’s 18-karat gold dial is divided into geometric patterns that are achieved using hand guilloché. The four destructed quarters convey the idea of shifting from one course to another, much like the Solaris 60 that crisscrosses the ocean with its large white sails. The model is equipped with a manufacture automatic calibre that is powered by a micro-rotor. It comes in a 39mm stainless steel case, indicates the hours, minutes, and seconds, and is water resistant to 50m.

Ralf Tech WRB Automatic “First Edition”

Ralf Tech is best known for its diving watches and the WRB Automatic “First Edition” is no exception. Limited to 100 pieces, this 39mm stainless steel timepiece with its unidirectional rotating bezel is water resistant to 200m and conforms to the ISO 6425 standard for a diving watch. The WRB is powered by an automatic movement with a 44-hour power reserve and indicates the hours, minutes, and seconds in the centre. It also comes with a choice of a black silicone strap or a brown leather strap and is presented in a cool water-resistant diving case in the event you go overboard before having time to put the watch on!
