I am always excited to see what celebrities are wearing at the Met Gala and this year did not disappoint. Held every first Monday in May at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, this charity event comes up with an official dress code that all attendees take very seriously. This year the theme was “The Garden of Time”, which was perfect for combining the worlds of fashion and watchmaking.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition worn by Ed Sheeran
Let’s start with one of my favorite watch collectors, pop star Ed Sheeran. From wearing his ToyWatch Jelly watch for years on end to curating an incredible watch collection, Sheeran’s love for watches hasn’t stopped growing.
During the Met Gala, the English singer was spotted wearing the sensational Audemars Piguet watch that was created in collaboration with John Mayer. This limited edition Piguet is equipped with the Manufacture’s Calibre 5134 (marking the last time this movement will be produced), features a “Crystal Sky” blue dial, white gold case and bracelet, and stole the show on the red carpet.

Cartier Clash Unlimited worn by Steven Yeun
It was the first Met for American/South Korean actor Steven Yeun, but not his first Cartier watch. In an interview with Variety, he was spotted wearing a Tank Louis Cartier watch in yellow gold with a dark leather strap. On May 6th, the actor, best known for his role in The Walking Dead, wore the Clash Unlimited in purple gold. Released last year at Watches and Wonders, this jewelry watch hugs the wrist and has an invisible clasp. Yeun seems to be quite a fan of Cartier watches which makes us enjoy following him even more.

Patek Philippe Aquanaut worn by Ben Simmons
The Australian professional basketball player certainly concentrated on the time element of “The Garden of Time”. Styled by Wesmore Perriott and wearing Thom Browne, his first Met look featured two timepieces. He was carrying a black briefcase clock and wore a Patek Philippe Aquanaut Luce “Rainbow” on the wrist.
This wristwatch is housed in a 39.9 mm rose gold case adorned with 52 multicolored baguette-cut sapphires and 50 baguette-cut diamonds and comes with Patek Philippe’s signature Aquanaut pattern on a mother-of-pearl dial.

Richard Mille RM UP-01 Ferrari worn by Jeremy Strong
American actor Jeremy Strong wore two very contrasting brands at the Met this year. His outfit featured a custom suit by Loro Piana and a Richard Mille timepiece. The former brand is the stealth wealth reference (aka helping you keep your wealth under wraps), and the latter is the hottest and one of the most exclusive watchmakers.
It is not the first time that we have seen Strong with a Richard Mille. He wore an RM 07-04 at last year’s Met and a RM 67-01 in the final season of the show Succession. This time, he wore the RM UP-01, the second thinnest watch in the world (Bulgari holds the record now that they released a watch 0.05 millimeters thinner last month). Just 1.75 millimeters thin, Richard Mille’s slim watch is about as thick as two American Express black cards.

Omega Speedmaster 38mm in Moonshine Gold worn by Jimmy Fallon
This year, Jimmy Fallon walked the red carpet but preferred to skip the afterparty and instead headed to Brooklyn at Lucali for pizza (I love that). Rest assured; it was enough for us to spot his watch.
He was seen wearing the Omega Speedmaster in Moonshine Gold, which is not yet available for sale, and Fallon was lucky enough to be the only person in the United States to wear it. But only for a short amount of time. Right after the Met, the TV host had to return the watch to the brand, as do many of the celebrities.

Piaget Andy Warhol watch worn by Matt Damon
Matt Damon and his wife Luciana wore outfits that looked more like a date night than Met Gala attire, but the famous actor made up for it with a very elegant Andy Warhol watch. Both dressed in Dior, the Damon couple was first spotted at The Mark Hotel in New York (THE hotel booked by every celebrity during the Met).
By keeping his outfit classy and timeless, Piaget was a good choice of watch. This timepiece was developed by the Maison to move away from the classic right-angled cases. It features the brand’s 534P automatic movement with a rose gold case, black dial, and black alligator strap.

With so much wristwear in one night, we can’t wait to see what next year’s Met Gala has to offer.
