Leica, best known for its high-end cameras and lens, is continuing its watchmaking adventure by presenting new versions of its ZM 11 watch. Let’s take a closer look

When we think of Leica, we think of incredible images immortalised by an excellent camera. But lovers of beautiful objects know that Leica is not just about cameras. Leica watches are just as accomplished with their numerous links between the worlds of photography and the measurement of time. The beauty of an object, whether we talk about a camera or a watch, is all linked to precision, the precision of time measurement in seconds and the perfect focal length of a lens.

This explains why a Leica watch is beautiful and precise. In fact, at Leica, they say that they capture the time that characterizes each and every one of us. Leica watches are inspired by the company's photographic history and engineering excellence. They focus on what they consider to be essential and are named after the German word "Zeitmesser", which means "time-measuring device".

Leica watches are all ZM models and bear witness to a 150-year heritage of exceptional quality and visionary aesthetics. This is, of course, the case with the new ZM 11, reflecting the iconic language of Leica design. The ZM 11 combines the expertise of watchmaking with the essence of photography, promising a new perspective from every angle. Available in a choice of steel or titanium, the timepieces measure 41 mm in diameter and are mounted on a strap with a choice of textile, steel, rubber or titanium. The Leica Easy Change system also allows each owner to change their strap at their leisure and to suit their mood. This is achieved with a mechanism that looks just like the red lens release button on Leica cameras, making it quick and easy to switch straps to adapt the ZM 11 to any style or activity.

The black, brown, burgundy or  blue dials all feature three central baton-type hands for the hours, minutes and seconds, and include a date window. Other subtle details, including luminescent hour-markers, inner bezels and printed minute tracks, further enhance the beauty of each timepiece.

In term of precision, the ZM 11 is powered by the LA-300 1 automatic calibre, produced in collaboration with Chronode SA. The movement is visible through the sapphire back of the case, which is water-resistant to 100 metres. This is a window through which the watch’s owner can discover a fine mechanism with exemplary finishes, including polishing, sandblasting, brushing and bevelling.

The movement also offers a 60-hour power reserve and boasts a precision measured in five positions of -4/+6 seconds per day. This allows Leica to offer its customers a five-year international warranty. The ZM 11 is a watch for all occasions: robust and sophisticated with remarkable functions and a luxurious finish, it is certainly worth zooming in on!
