Jaeger-LeCoultre’s latest Reverso Tribute Chronograph is an all-gold triumph, blending the Reverso’s Art Deco heritage with noble sophistication

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is a name that needs no introduction. From its inception in 1931 as a polo player’s wrist companion to its emergence as an enduring style icon, the Reverso has continually reinvented itself while remaining faithful to its Art Deco heritage.

Now, La Grande Maison offers a radiant new chapter for this icon with reversible design: the Reverso Tribute Chronograph in full pink gold.

Echoes of an Icon

The Reverso Chronograph made its debut in 1996 as a milestone for Jaeger-LeCoultre, housing Calibre 829, the first manually wound integrated chronograph movement developed during the resurgence of mechanical watchmaking following the quartz crisis. The watch was a technical feat, incorporating a rectangularly shaped chrono movement to match the Reverso’s emblematic case.

Fast forward to 2023, and the Reverso Tribute Chronograph appeared with a fresh twist: a stainless-steel version with a grey-blue sunray dial and an 18K pink gold version with a black sunray dial. Both were powered by Calibre 860, an evolution of Calibre 829, now packing pared-back bridges and a longer power reserve.

Both models were met with acclaim, so much that this year Jaeger-LeCoultre has stepped up the sophistication with an all-pink-gold edition, harnessing the allure of this noble metal while staying true to the Reverso’s sporting roots.

A New Take on Gold

The Reverso Tribute Chronograph is now enveloped in the warm glow of 18K pink gold. From its gadroon-adorned case to its solid gold front dial, movement bridges and even the pin buckle, the watch is a testament to this precious metal’s timeless appeal.

The front dial even introduces a new aesthetic to the Reverso Tribute line. Laser-engraved with fine horizontal lines, the pink gold surface brings out the rectilinear geometry of the case.

Applied trapezoid indices and Dauphine hands sit above the dial, with a chemin de fer minutes track in black creating subtle contrast. The result is a clean yet striking composition that underscores the watch’s Art Deco elegance.

Flip the case, and the true complexity of the Reverso Tribute Chronograph reveals itself. The reverse side features an open-worked dial, showcasing the intricacy of the Calibre 860 chronograph movement.

Its 18K pink gold bridges are nicely hand-bevelled and decorated with Geneva waves, while blued screws and blued hands add pops of colour. Meanwhile, the retrograde 30-minute counter and central chronograph seconds track are highlighted in black for optimal legibility.

Calibre 860

Like its predecessor, the Calibre 829, the updated hand-wound Calibre 860 showcases a fully integrated chronograph architecture with a column wheel and horizontal clutch, ensuring smooth and precise operation. The movement drives time indications on both the front and reverse dials, requiring two sets of hands that move in opposite directions.

Despite its complexity and over 300 components, the Calibre 860 fits within the watch’s slim 11.14mm profile. The improved 52-hour power reserve (compared to Calibre 829’s 40 hours) ensures ample autonomy, ready for the energy-intensive demands of the dual dials and retrograde chronograph.

Designed for Versatility

Measuring 49.4mm by 29.9mm, the Reverso Tribute Chronograph maintains the elongated proportions that define the collection. Its pink gold case is paired with two straps: a tan calf leather strap crafted by Argentina’s renowned Casa Fagliano – a nod to the Reverso’s polo heritage – and a classic black alligator strap for formal occasions.

This combination of sporty elegance and everyday practicality makes this Reverso Tribute Chronograph a versatile companion, at home on the field or at a black-tie event.
