BA111OD’s CHPTR_Δ gets a size update with four new exciting models in a slim 40mm case – all while retaining its signature complication

Neuchâtel-based BA111OD has been making waves in the watchmaking world since its founding in 2019, thanks to its bold designs, innovative mechanics and impressive value-for-money pricing.

With a growing reputation for pushing the envelope, the brand is back with four new iterations of its avant-garde CHPTR_Δ – Chapter Delta – now in a more compact and wearable 40mm case. These new models build on the intrigue of the original 44mm editions launched last year, while offering collectors a new level of versatility and style.

For those unfamiliar with it, CHPTR_Δ stands out for the hypnotic way it displays time. Instead of traditional hour hands, a dot marker follows the inner curves of a deltoid shape to tell the time – an effect that slows and speeds up in an elegantly irregular yet ultimately precise rhythm.

This hypocycloidal dance is as much an art form as it is a technical achievement. Now, more collectors can experience the unique display with a 40mm case that promises a perfect fit on most people’s wrists.

Meet the Quartet

BA111OD’s latest line-up is all about variety, offering something for every taste.

First in the spotlight is the CHPTR_Δ.9 2-Tone, a piece that combines timeless elegance with retro cool. Its dial and stainless-steel case are accented by a yellow gold PVD treatment and are paired with either a white rubber strap or a two-tone steel and gold bracelet. Whether you’re dressing up or down, this piece should fit the bill.

Next up is the CHPTR_Δ.6 Phantom, a bold choice for those who lean towards darker aesthetics. With its anthracite PVD-treated case and black rubber or crocodile-patterned leather strap, the Phantom cuts a sleek and brooding figure.

For those looking for low-key lustre, the CHPTR_Δ.7 Ella – Black Diamond takes the same design ethos as the Phantom and adds a bezel set with 80 natural black diamonds for a touch of understated luxury.

Lastly, the CHPTR_Δ.8 Kairos is a throwback to one of the original 44mm CHPTR_Δ designs that started it all. With its steel case, grey and blue dial accents and matching grey rubber strap or bicolour steel bracelet, this model strikes a neat balance between the familiar and the fresh.

Each new 40mm case is water-resistant to 50 metres and features the brand’s signature 4 o’clock crown. As with previous models, the aesthetic of the new quartet was conceived by BA111OD’s senior designer, Liliane Murenzi.

Innovation Beneath the Surface

Of course, what really sets the CHPTR_Δ apart from traditional timepieces is the way it tells the time. At its core is a Swiss-made Soprod M100 base movement, modified with a proprietary module initiated by Diego Böttger-Zevallos and developed by Olivier Mory.

The result is a time display like no other. Instead of a hand sweeping around the dial, the hour is indicated by a dot that follows a hypocycloidal path. The dot’s motion is an entrancing deceleration and acceleration, symbolising the fleeting and precious moments of time.

“I particularly appreciate this aspect,” says brand founder Thomas Baillod. “Besides being mesmerising, it's the symbolic aspect of life that fascinates me. Like those precious moments that last or slip away.”

With a 42-hour power reserve, the movement itself is as smartly executed as the concept behind it. Perlage, straight-graining, frosting and snailing provide a laudable level of finishing, further emphasising BA111OD’s commitment to both form and function.

Still Pushing the Envelope

True to its forward-thinking nature, BA111OD has equipped the CHPTR_Δ with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology embedded into the domed sapphire crystal.

Invisible and non-invasive, this NFC tag allows for seamless, contactless communication between devices. Whether sharing a digital business card or engaging in other tech-driven interactions, this feature adds a subtle layer of connectivity to what is otherwise a mechanical object.

Starting at CHF 2,600 for the CHPTR_Δ.9 2-Tone on a rubber strap and climbing to CHF 3,600 for the CHPTR_Δ.7 Ella – Black Diamond, BA111OD once again demonstrates its ability to deliver impressive value in the world of Swiss watchmaking.
