High-end Swiss independent brand Cyrus is known for its intricate mechanisms, atypical displays and bold aesthetics, as crystallised by its Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon, Chronograph and Alarm models.
While Technical Director Jean-François Mojon is the face of the brand’s watchmaking and responsible for imagining the eye-catching 3D architecture of its in-house movements, leading the business side of the company is its owner and president Dr Pablo Richard.
Having studied and practised plastic surgery, Richard put his medical career to the side to focus on two of his passions, watches and cigars: in addition to performing his duties at Cyrus, Richard is a key member of the board and management team at Patoro premium cigars.
We sit down to talk to him about his passions outside of watchmaking and cigars, though these topics understandably crop up a little in our conversation!
Good morning, Pablo. So, tell us: What is your favourite book?
‘The Firm’ by John Grisham. It’s a remarkable story and it’s fascinating how the main character, a tax lawyer, gets out of these difficult situations in such a smooth way.
Your favourite movie?
‘Pulp Fiction’ because Quentin Tarantino is the master himself. Old but gold.
Your favourite album?
Queen’s ‘A Night at the Opera’ which features ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ among other tracks. These are songs which never grow old.
Your favourite food?
Italian Food. Simple dishes with great ingredients. Because love goes through the stomach!
Your favourite drink?
Espresso Martini paired with a good cigar. It activates my brain and gives me inspiration.
Your favourite holiday destination?
The Swiss Alps. I regain my energy and find some rest for my soul there.
Your favourite TV show?
‘Friends’. It’s an old classic and it’s always good to have a daily dose of humour.
Your favourite podcast?
‘Chief Change Officer’. In today’s world you need to stay flexible.
Your favourite piece of clothing or sartorial accessory?
My black-tie suit which I bought for my wedding. I’ll only take it out of my closet for very special occasions!
Your favourite activity that you do in your free time?
Evening runs with my Dalmatian and horseback riding with my wife.

I've played Swiss accordion for 10 years!
What’s one item (not a watch) that you can’t live without? Or that you can’t go anywhere without?
My pocket book, where I write down interesting ideas and things to do wherever I am.
What is on your ‘bucket list’ (an activity, accomplishment or destination that you hope to do or visit before you exit this world)?
Visit Machu Picchu for long walks on breathtaking landscapes.
Who is someone who has inspired you in your life and/or career. How did they inspire you?
Nick Hayek. He inspires me as an entrepreneur and is a rebel at heart.
Name a famous person or historical figure, dead or alive, that you would like to have lunch with. Why?
Pablo Picasso, an inspiring artist that I was named after!
What was the first watch you remember owning? What was special about it?
A Swatch gifted to me by my parents. It’s colourful and cool!
And finally, a wrist check: What watch are you currently wearing? And what do you like about it?
The Cyrus Klepcys DICE Saffron, the first double independent chronograph in a wristwatch. A very sporty chic watch with a beautiful colour scheme of orange and green.
