David and Goliath

Among the new pieces unveiled by Chopard this year at the Watches and Wonders fair, two stand out: a featherweight and a heavyweight—the David and Goliath of the moment

Whether in watchmaking or jewelry, Chopard has long accustomed us to bold creativity paired with numerous innovations. Among the watches introduced in spring 2025, two weigh in on opposite ends of the scale! We're talking, with a touch of humor, about David and Goliath. One is among the lightest watches on the market, the other one of the heaviest.

David, in this case, takes the form of the Alpine Eagle 41 SL Cadence 8HF. Priced at CHF 23,000, it weighs just 75 grams with its strap, and only 48 grams without it. As for Goliath, he is also "embodied" within the Alpine Eagle collection—this time in the form of the 41 XP CS Platinum. Priced at CHF 105,000, this model crosses the 300-gram mark, strap included.

SL for “Super Light”

The Alpine Eagle 41 SL Cadence 8HF thus stands as the lightest watch in the collection. Produced in a limited edition of 250 pieces, it owes its lightness to the use of ceramized titanium with a micro-blasted finish for its 41 mm case, and rubber for its strap.

Ceramized titanium is a cutting-edge material that reflects the brand’s avant-garde spirit. Originally developed for aerospace and automotive construction, it is ultra-resistant and created through a process that oxidizes titanium using electro-plasma technology. This treatment gives it a hardness of 1000 Vickers and shock and scratch resistance comparable to ceramic.

A masterpiece within the Alpine Eagle collection—a creative cornerstone of Chopard's watchmaking—it houses a high-frequency, in-house automatic caliber, the chronometer-certified 01.14C movement, whose base plate and bridges are also made from ceramized titanium.

A heavyweight in refinement

The Alpine Eagle 41 XP CS Platinum takes on the role of the heaviest watch in the collection. This is due to its extreme preciousness and ultimate refinement. This version is, in fact, being offered for the first time in platinum—from its 41 mm case all the way to its bracelet.

Platinum, rare and coveted, is 30 times rarer than gold and 40 to 60% denser. It is thus heavier and harder, making it extremely resistant to corrosion and abrasion. These extraordinary qualities require particular expertise and specialized tools.

But there’s more: platinum also deserves its own hallmark, as is often the case with artisanal creations. This is why Chopard will now use a bee symbol as a hallmark to identify its platinum pieces. It is hand-engraved on the side of the case of this stunning Alpine Eagle.

A treasure honored with the highly demanding Geneva Seal and powered by the ultra-thin, automatic, chronometer-certified L.U.C 96.42-L movement, featuring a platinum micro-rotor.
