As the year comes to a close, we look back of some of the timepieces that we most enjoyed getting our hands on

At WorldTempus, we test watches a little differently from our competitors. Instead of letting one journalist have the pleasure of trying a watch for a few days, we pass the watch around the whole office, so that all our journalists can give their thoughts and opinions. This year we tested numerous watches in all shapes and sizes, all of which were photographed on our wrists by our in-house photographer. Here are some of our favourites.

Zenith Pilots X Porter Collaboration

This has to be my favourite team test of the year as we filmed members of our team as they discovered two new Zenith Pilot watches. This candid video team test shows their first impressions as they discover the watches. We had journalists take part, but also our marketing manager, sales coordinator, and photographer to get many different points of view. Everyone adored the watches with their dark green and orange aesthetic, with half the team preferring the Zenith Pilot Big Date Flyback Chronograph Porter with the El Primero movement, and the other half liking the smaller Zenith Pilot Automatic Porter.

Chopard Alpine Eagle 33 Yellow Gold

It was in the middle of the summer that we tested this gorgeous Chopard Alpine Eagle 33 in ethical yellow gold. The whole team loved the mix of yellow gold with the turquoise eagle eye dial and the ring of diamonds around the bezel. This timepiece marked the first time that Chopard had moved away from the natural colours found in alpine landscapes – Pine Green, Aletsch Blue, Bernina Grey, Pitch Black and Monte Rosa Pink – for something more daring and maritime in hue. We got some great photos of the Alpine Eagle 33 in the park right next to the office, so check them out.

Czapek Antarctique Flying Diamonds

Our journalists thoroughly enjoyed testing the Czapek Antarctique Flying Diamonds with its aventurine dial and diamond indexes cut with 24 facets. The watch is powered by Czapek’s SCH5 calibre with its micro rotor, skeletonized bridges, and expert finishing, which can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back. The watch comes in two sizes (40.5 mm and 38.5 mm) making it a truly unisex model. Everyone appreciated how both sized timepieces blended the lines between an elegant dress watch and a versatile sports watch.

Bovet Récital 12

The Bovet Récital 12 was a big hit in the WorldTempus office. Our Senior Editor Steven Rogers appreciated its impressive highly polished titanium case while GMT’s Co-Editor-in-chief Marie de Pimodan shared her love for the off-centred blue engraved and lacquered dial. Our Managing Editor Allissa Pataki spoke about the movement with its inverted baseplate showing the balance wheel, gears, and seconds wheel on the dial side of the watch; Mathieu Rotzer, our commercial assistant shared his thoughts on the bracelet, and I talked about how comfortable it felt on the wrist. Here is the full watch review

Glashütte Original Serenade Luna

The Glashütte Original Serenade Luna impressed all the ladies in the WorldTempus office this autumn as not only did we have one watch to test, but five different models. Each of our colleagues was able to match one of the watches to her own style. It wasn’t only the choice of colours and materials that seduced our team; however, they also appreciated the Serenade Luna’s automatic movement – the Calibre 35-14 – featuring a silicon balance spring and a shock-resistant oscillating system. The movement’s components were all finished to the highest standards and could be admired through the watch’s sapphire crystal caseback, another bonus point for our team of female watch experts!
