Can you hear the waves? The sound of them crashing and rolling, hitting the shore again and again. You can hear – no, feel - the soft breeze all over your arms, legs and feet. The sun crinkles on your skin, which is covered with a soft tan to remember those warm, sunny days. The light kisses your shoulders and face as you gaze out at the sea, a shade of almost translucent blue when golden hour is at its peak and touches the water just so. A pinch-me sunset, hardly earned (from the daily far niente), but delicious and exquisite just the same. You stand and jump in the waves. You laugh, savour every last ounce of it, and as you drift along, secretly wish the feeling could last forever.

That’s exactly the scene I was taken back to as I slipped the Alpine Eagle on. The Maritime blue dial shimmered and it was like I could taste the salt of the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea, could see the southern slopes of the Alps in the distance. The play of light on the sunburst pattern, the sparkle of the diamonds on the bezel, like the sunlight dancing on the waves. Chopard’s Maritime blue dial was my Proustian madeleine, and I wanted to eat it every last bite. Will it be yours too?

I am a big fan of yellow gold watches. They are my favorite. But this watch is not made from your regular yellow gold.

Since 2018, all gold used in Chopard’s watches and jewelry has been sustainably sourced. It comes from responsibly produced artisanal and recycled gold certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC).

Compared to traditional mining methods, ethical sourcing ensures minimal environmental damage, supports fair wages, and contributes to the socio-economic development of mining communities.

Readers, who might be the subsequent buyers of this stunning gold watch, can feel good about their purchase knowing they are supporting and encouraging responsible business practices. Also, ethically sourced gold follows strict standards, ensuring high-quality gold. So, it’s a win-win.

And for anyone looking at the investment side of the watch industry, ethically sourced gold has been seen as a long-term investment as we increasingly prioritize sustainable products.

Every time I have had the pleasure of viewing a Chopard Alpine Eagle, it has been the dial that has caught my attention. A watch’s dial is what we see first, so it is no coincidence that we call it the face of the watch too, as if it were a person. When we look at the Chopard Alpine Eagle, however, we are taken beyond the face and directly into the eye of an alpine eagle. The textured radial design of the iris creates a sunburst effect that adds depth and visual interest to the dial. It is quite arresting the first time you see it, beckoning you to look closer.

Since its release, the Chopard Alpine Eagle has been offered in a colour palette inspired by the natural hues found in alpine landscapes – Pine Green, Aletsch Blue, Bernina Grey, Pitch Black and Monte Rosa Pink – but for this summer, Chopard is leaving the mountains for the sea with this Maritime Blue version that has been married with a sand-like yellow gold. Available in a “mini” 33mm, it is totally on trend, and on the wrist, it is just delightful. It is certainly a timepiece to keep the sunny days with you all year round!

Firstly, I just want to say that it would be extremely hard for the Chopard Alpine Eagle to do something wrong in my eyes. Proportionally speaking, it is flawless, unlike many other feminine timepieces from collections where larger models predominate. This is because the Alpine Eagle is directly inspired by the St Moritz, a collection from the Chopard archives, originally designed in 1980 when watches were generally smaller than they are today. I’m pretty upfront about my preference for yellow-gold timepieces, and this model uses ethical Fairmined gold in line with Chopard’s sustainability policy, which I feel gives it a real edge in terms of value. Lastly, the textured dial in turquoise is simply mesmerising in any setting. Those last three words in my sentence are extremely important as a qualifier, because you’ll often hear people say about similar textured dials that they “look especially beautiful in the sunlight”. That’s not the case here; the dial of the Chopard Alpine Eagle is equally alluring no matter where you find it.
