When unveiling the Fiftysix collection in 2018, Vacheron Constantin was entering new expressive territory with a retro-contemporary style watch designed for daily wear and every occasion. Directly inspired by the 1950s golden age of round, slim and elegant watches – and notably the 1956 Reference 6073 – the Fiftysix has since appeared in several aesthetic and technical versions, including self-winding models, or others equipped with useful complications, such as the full calendar or the display of day, date and power reserve.

This year, the Fiftysix returns to the scene in a very chic version, combining a 40mm pink gold case, a black dial and a new anthracite grey nubuck strap. Like its predecessors, this automatic Fiftysix makes numerous references to the post-war watches produced by the Manufacture, as well as to its emblematic Maltese cross, whose silhouette is explicitly evoked by the distinctive lugs extending from the case. Typical 1950s elements are also present, such as the “glass box” crystal topping the bezel, as well as the sector-type dial on which Vacheron Constantin deploys an attractive play of light and shade between the alternating black opaline and sunburst finishes and the applied Roman numerals, hour-markers and hands in pink gold.
